چکیده

The study addresses the impact of flexibility on the bullwhip effect, i.e. the increase of demand variability moving upstream along the SC. With this aim, a three stages SC is investigated, where producers/suppliers/retailers are connected by appropriate inventories. A reorder quantity ROQ (constant time interval) as stock policy has been adopted. The analysis takes into consideration two extreme degrees of flexibility and an intermediate degree of flexibility, named limited flexibility. Two performance indicators are monitored: (i) average stocks; (ii) standard deviation of the SC players demand. As first, production and delivery lead time and production capacity of each SC player are considered as a constant parameter. Then, both of those are modelled as stochastic variables, in order to investigate the impact of flexibility on the bullwhip effect reduction when uncertainty increases.

The Impact of Forecasting Methods Combination for Reducing Bullwhip Effect in a Four-level Supply Chain under Variable Demand

Bullwhip effect in a supply chain, makes inefficiencies such as excess inventory and overdue orders during the chain. These problems can be reduced by appropriate predictions. Forecasting must be done in all levels of a supply chain. This research addresses the problem of optimal combination of forecasting to reduce the bullwhip effect in a four-level supply chain when demand is variable. For t...

Investigating Impact of Intelligent Agents in Improving Supply Chain Performance

Improvement in supply chain performance is one of the major issues in the current world. Lack of coordination in the supply chain is the main drawback of supply chain that many researchers have proposed different methodologies to overcome it. VMI (Vendor-managed inventory) is one of these methodologies that implementing it has some obstacles. This paper proposes new model that is agent-managed ...

Measuring and Analyzing the Bullwhip Effect in a Two-Product and Two Echelon Supply Chain Using Control Theory Approach

Coordination is very important in supply chain management and it is one of the main factors in supply chain profitability. Bullwhip effect is one of the basic obstacles to achieve coordination in supply chains and reduction of this phenomenon has an important role in supply chain harmony. The other side, costs of supply chain can be mitigated and customer service level can be increased by reduc...

Controlling the Bullwhip Effect in a Supply Chain Network with an Inventory Replenishment Policy by a Robust Control Method

This paper develops a mathematical model using differential equations and considers a bullwhip effect in a supply chain network with multiple retailers and distributors. To ensure the stability of the entire system and reduce the bullwhip effect, a robust control method and an inventory replenishment policy are proposed. This shows that the choice of the output matrix may reduce the bullwhip ef...
